HB #25 Maui, Denver, & ConnecticutBusy. I began emailing with John-Henry-Justin-Henry-Stephen-Stephen-Julie-Elsita-LiLi TOWNSEND of Maui, Hawaii. She comes from one of our family's more notable branches. She is interested in learning more about her OLIN heritage. I sent her a copy of one of her Great-great Grandmother's books and a book by her 1st Cousin (once removed) Olin DOWS - I had them as spares for just such a purpose.
Blog away!I have granted permission to all authenticated users to blog on this site. As this is a Family site, use common sense and good judgment with your posts, but please do post. Go!

There is an Olin Gas Engine for sale on eBay. Starting bid is $999.99. The Olin Gas Engines were made by John-John-John-Ezra-Paris-Thomas-Fred C. OLIN. Lemme know if you get it please?
HB #23 The OLIN Hotel - Not Just Another HotelThere is an old hotel building in downtown Denver, Colorado named the OLIN Hotel. Here is a cool photo circa the 1920s. Currently, it is an assisted living community for low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
HB #22 OHLINs, JK3, Sec-TreasI need to catch-up on my blogging. 1) Lloyd OHLIN's y-DNA test indicates that he is not a descendant of John & Susannah. Unless the OHLINs test someone else whose results indicate that Lloyd is an anomaly, we should assume that they are not our family. Darn.
Historian's Blog #21 - Olin College StickerThis afternoon while I was getting ready to pull into a parking space at my local Sears I saw an Olin College sticker on the back bumper of a minivan. I thought it was very cool. It made my day. BTW, Didn't Ruth do a good job on Issue 37 of The OLINews? Also, I thought Bobbie Ernst's article was nice.
HB #20 - Biographical Sketches and Records of the John & Susannah (SPENCER) OLIN FamilyTom told me how to create "books" on the website a few weeks ago and we agreed that it was a better format for all the biographies I wanted to add to the site. It is a work in progess. I plan on adding every biography about every member of the family I can find. Eventually I will break down all the family histories into individual bios. Also, this will enable individual branch historians to write about their immediate family members and those bios can be added as well.
Historian's Blog #19 - Ancestry.com DNA Special 40% off through 12/31/08Ancestry is running a new 40% off special through the end of the year: http://dna.ancestry.com/selectTest.aspx I'm planning on asking the Council to fund maybe one or more additional tests since our current crop has been so informative. Individuals can still get their own tests. The 46-marker test we all took is only $119.40 USD. I've been corresponding with Mary Ellen (OHLIN) DAVIS of the Australia OHLINs who says she's gotten confirmation from Lloyd OHLIN that he is doing the testing - cross your fingers!
Donald E. Olin (1927-2008)Donald E. Olin, my father and the founding and current Treasurer of the OFS, died early yesterday, Saturday, November 15, at his home near Ouaquaga, New York. Calling hours and funeral services are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, November 20-21. A full obituary will be published Monday and Tuesday in the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.
Reunion in cyberspace?Videoconferencing has become more commonplace as high-speed Internet connections have proliferated. I've been wondering whether such technology could be used to hold a family reunion on-line. Without question, there are limitations to the technology, and a virtual reunion will never match the immediacy and physical closeness of a real one, but it could have its uses. |
